Louma is a working-farm country hotel in West Dorset, where meals are central to the stay. Its 100 acres supply part of the kitchen’s ingredients, and accommodation is spread between the Farm House, converted barns, stables and shepherd’s huts. This is a countryside base near the Jurassic Coast rather than a beachfront hotel: the pleasure is in moving between the farm, the dining table and the wellness facilities, with coastal outings when you want them.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included in each stay. That makes Louma particularly useful for a food-led break when you would rather settle in than organise three separate restaurant bookings. It also changes the way prices should be compared: a full-board Louma rate already contains dinner, so adding a separate dinner allowance would inflate the cost. Choose your accommodation for its space, outlook and degree of privacy, then build the rest of the visit around the farm’s daily rhythm.
Louma’s menus follow the farm and the season, supported by ingredients from neighbouring producers. Breakfast might bring farm eggs, house-made preserves, honey and the hotel’s own sausages, alongside pastries, fruit and juices. Lunch is deliberately relaxed, with wood-fired dishes, fish, salads and baking; dinner gives the kitchen more room to work with fresh seafood, garden vegetables and carefully prepared meat.
The Farmhouse Dining Room and Main Barn offer different settings within the same food-led stay. This is a useful distinction for couples who want an evening that feels special but do not want every meal to be formal. Families have dedicated early children’s dining arrangements. Discuss dietary requirements before arrival, and check exactly which drinks, extras and activities are included in your selected rate rather than treating full board as an unlimited all-inclusive tariff.
Louma offers several ways to experience the farm. The Farm House provides a traditional base with six spacious rooms; stone barns, timber stables and shepherd’s huts give guests alternatives with their own layouts and relationship to the landscape. Some stone-barn accommodation has private terraces, and selected rooms welcome dogs.
For a short escape, consider whether you want to be in the central house or have more separation from the main communal spaces. If a coastal outlook, outdoor sitting area or particular bathroom arrangement matters, choose the named room rather than relying on a broad category. The hotel’s accommodation is varied enough that two stays can feel quite different. Tell Louma if you are bringing a dog before booking, so an appropriate room can be allocated and any supplement confirmed.
The Wellness Barn is a substantial part of Louma’s appeal, with indoor and outdoor swimming, a sauna and fitness facilities. It gives you somewhere to spend a quiet afternoon without having to leave the estate, particularly useful when Dorset weather turns. Treatments and wellness experiences can be arranged around meals, with advance booking sensible for specific appointments.
Outside, the farm offers a connection to the food served later in the day. Seasonal activities provide opportunities to explore the land rather than simply admire it through a bedroom window. The Jurassic Coast is within reach for walking and seaside trips, but Louma works equally well as a stay centred on the property: breakfast, time outdoors, an easy lunch and dinner with no onward journey.
