Beaverbrook is a country-house escape with several distinct places to stay and eat, rather than a hotel built around a single dining room. The setting is the Surrey Hills, on a 470-acre estate near Leatherhead. At its centre stands Lord Beaverbrook’s former home, where historic bedrooms, a library and a private cinema give the house its particular character. It is a good choice for a celebration when you want dinner to be part of a much wider stay: a treatment, a woodland walk and time in the house can all fit around the table booking.
The estate holds two MICHELIN Keys. These recognise the hotel experience; its Japanese restaurant should be chosen for its own menu and setting. Guests can stay in the main house or choose the quieter Garden House, Coach House accommodation or The Village. That choice changes the feel of the visit, as well as the distance between your bedroom, restaurant and spa. Ask which part of the estate your room occupies before booking.
The Japanese Grill is the main-house dining choice, with Japanese dishes and a tasting-menu option in surroundings that make an evening feel like an occasion. The Garden House Restaurant takes an Italian-inspired direction beside the kitchen garden and works well for a less formal dinner. Mrs. Beeton’s provides another British dining option in The Village. These are separate restaurants on the same estate, so a multi-night stay can include different styles of cooking without a drive home afterwards.
For a complete dinner, bed and breakfast break, Beaverbrook advertises a package that includes overnight accommodation, à la carte breakfast, spa use and dinner in either the Garden House or Japanese Grill. The included dinner is a set menu in the Garden House or a tasting menu in the Japanese Grill. Drinks and discretionary service charges have their own terms, so compare the package inclusions with a room-and-restaurant booking.
The House has 18 bedrooms named after former guests, with antiques, artwork and period details giving each its own identity. The 11 Garden House rooms have a more botanical, country-cottage feel and views towards woodland. The Village adds 21 individually styled suites in cottages, about five minutes from the house by buggy, while Coach House rooms sit behind the spa complex and offer interconnecting possibilities.
Choose a main-house room if the historic setting is the main attraction; the Garden House suits a quieter stay near its restaurant, and The Village offers a more separate base within the estate. Families should ask about connecting rooms and the activity programme. Balconies, terraces and four-poster beds belong to particular room types, so specify those features rather than assuming they come with every booking.
The Coach House Health Club & Spa gives the stay a substantial wellness element. Treatments draw on the surrounding landscape, and there are swimming and fitness facilities alongside places to settle between appointments. Book a treatment ahead of a weekend visit and confirm the arrangements for younger swimmers if travelling as a family.
The estate itself is worth leaving time for. Woodland surroundings, the historic cinema and family activities make it possible to stay on the grounds rather than fill the weekend with journeys. A useful plan is to arrive early enough for a walk or spa visit, dine in the restaurant that best suits the occasion, then keep the following morning free for breakfast and another gentle circuit of the estate.
