For an Inverness-area dinner, bed and breakfast break, Bunchrew House is a small country-house option on the Beauly Firth. The appeal is straightforward: a water-facing dining room, two AA Rosettes, sixteen individual bedrooms and time to enjoy the house and grounds.
It is the only stay in this current selection, so the useful questions are whether it suits your trip, which room to choose and whether a longer stay offers better value. We would consider it for a romantic food-led escape near Inverness, rather than a hotel for walking straight out into the city centre.
Our picks: which stay suits your break?
- For a romantic house-and-dinner escape: Bunchrew House — a small historic hotel and dining-room views across the Beauly Firth
- For recognised cooking at the hotel: Bunchrew House restaurant — two AA Rosettes and an on-site dinner, with no separate restaurant journey
- For a carefully planned stay with your dog: Bunchrew House — pets can join dinner and breakfast in the Mackenzie room when reserved
- For winter value over a longer stay: Bunchrew House’s direct winter break — a published two- or three-night dinner-inclusive offer is worth comparing with a one-night booking
Who Bunchrew suits best
Bunchrew House makes most sense when you want dinner and the hotel to occupy the evening. Its wood-panelled restaurant looks across the water towards the Black Isle, while the drawing room and bar offer places to spend time around the meal. The two AA Rosettes provide a firmer food reason to book than a general promise of luxury.
With sixteen individually decorated bedrooms, room choice deserves attention. Some rooms have different views and layouts, so ask for the room that fits the occasion rather than assume the lowest quote buys the photograph that caught your eye. For a romantic stay, the combination of the house, the firth and an unhurried dinner is the attraction.
The guide total is £355 for two on both the midweek and weekend basis, including a £60-per-person dinner allowance. Equal figures are a useful starting point for comparing dates, not proof that every Friday and Tuesday costs the same. With no second Inverness-area property in this selection, we would not describe Bunchrew as the cheapest or best hotel in the city.
A useful winter alternative to a one-night booking
Bunchrew’s own winter offer is worth checking if you can stay longer. For 1 November 2026 to 28 February 2027, it publishes a Classic Double or Twin stay with breakfast and four-course dinner each evening, plus arrival extras.
The two-night option is £125 per person per night: £500 for two people over two nights. The three-night option is £115 per person per night: £690 for two over three nights. These are direct hotel offers with minimum stays, rather than a one-night price to put into the search table.
That works out at £250 or £230 per couple per night respectively. For guests with flexible dates, asking about the winter offer is more useful than assuming the £355 one-night guide is the only way to book. The hotel asks guests to contact it directly for the offer; confirm availability and the room category for your dates.
One of the more useful dog-dining arrangements
Bunchrew welcomes pets, with a charge from £15 per pet per night depending on the animal. Dogs cannot enter the main restaurant, but can join you for dinner and breakfast in the Mackenzie room. Space there is limited and advance booking is required.
That is a practical advantage for a food-led trip with a dog: you can arrange the meal as well as the bedroom. Book the pet accommodation and Mackenzie-room table together. If the main restaurant’s water-facing setting is a large part of the attraction, remember that the dog-friendly arrangement is a different dining space.
When a different base would suit you better
If the priority is a full spa break, compare Golf View Hotel & Spa in Nairn. It has a coastal setting, the Hickory restaurant and Coast Spa, making it a useful nearby-area alternative with a different set of facilities. Nairn is a separate destination from Inverness, so choose it deliberately.
If you want several city restaurants within a short walk of your bedroom, Bunchrew’s quieter position is the trade-off. It suits a stay where you are happy to return to the house for the evening, with Inverness and the wider Highlands explored during the day.
