Glasgow offers a useful split between spending on dinner and spending on the hotel. Radisson RED with UNALOME is the strongest Michelin-led pairing in this selection. Kimpton Blythswood Square is the more complete luxury-and-spa choice, while Hotel du Vin at One Devonshire Gardens suits a romantic West End stay.
For the lowest overall budget and dinner in the same building, start with Malmaison. The other combinations take you to separate restaurants, so the most expensive total does not necessarily mean the most luxurious bedroom.
Our picks: which stay suits your break?
- Best for a Michelin food occasion: Radisson RED with UNALOME — Graeme Cheevers’ one-Michelin-Star restaurant in Finnieston
- Best balance of restaurant recognition and price: Radisson RED with Crabshakk — two AA Rosettes in the catalogue, at £290 midweek or £275 weekend
- Best for luxury and a proper spa stay: Kimpton Blythswood Square — a five-star hotel with thermal facilities, paired here with Stravaigin off site
- Best for a romantic West End setting: Hotel du Vin Glasgow — One Devonshire Gardens’ Victorian terrace, with the Bothy dinner booked separately
- Lowest guide total and simplest evening: Malmaison Glasgow — £240 midweek or £260 weekend with an on-site Chez Mal dinner allowance
UNALOME or Crabshakk: spend on the meal you want
Radisson RED Glasgow has two food-led pairings. UNALOME is the occasion choice, at £440 midweek or £425 at the weekend for two. Graeme Cheevers’ restaurant holds one Michelin Star and publishes tasting, vegetable tasting and à la carte menus. The dinner format matters, so choose it deliberately rather than assume the indicative meal figure buys every option.
Crabshakk brings the same hotel stay to £290 midweek or £275 at the weekend. That is £150 less for two, with two AA Rosettes recorded for the restaurant. It is our strongest food-value starting point if seafood is what you want. Check the Crabshakk branch when reserving: the pairing is intended as a Finnieston evening, and the restaurant operates more than one location.
Radisson RED itself has a lively personality, including weekend music at its rooftop bar. We would choose it for an energetic Glasgow break and access to these restaurants, rather than assume that paying for UNALOME turns the hotel into a quiet country-style retreat.
Blythswood Square: the luxury and spa choice
Kimpton Blythswood Square is £365 midweek or £415 at the weekend with dinner at Stravaigin. The hotel is the reason to consider the higher room budget: its thermal facilities include vitality and hydro pools, a salt room, steam room and saunas.
Residents currently receive complimentary thermal access from 7.30am to 9.30am and from 5pm to 8pm, with last-entry rules. Access outside those windows requires a spa package. That can make an arrival-afternoon spa visit followed by dinner a sensible plan, provided the times work for you.
Stravaigin is a separate restaurant, with adventurous sharing dishes and influences from beyond Scotland. Choose this combination if you want both a substantial spa hotel and an evening out. If a leisurely dinner entirely within the hotel is essential, ask about the hotel’s own restaurant and price that meal separately.
Hotel du Vin or Dakota for a couple’s weekend?
Hotel du Vin Glasgow at One Devonshire Gardens is our romantic-setting pick. Its Victorian terrace in the West End gives it a different character from Radisson RED. The Bothy pairing is £295 midweek or £335 at the weekend, with dinner off site.
The hotel also has its own restaurant, which currently advertises three AA Rosettes. Those awards belong to that restaurant, not to the Bothy meal priced here. If the idea of staying in for dinner appeals more, obtain a quote for the hotel’s restaurant before comparing the total.
Dakota Glasgow with Eusebi Deli is £290 midweek or £315 at the weekend. Eusebi’s Italian cooking, fresh pasta and daily market dishes give this pairing a distinct food reason to book. Dinner is in the West End, away from the hotel. The midweek difference from Hotel du Vin is only £5, so choose the hotel location and restaurant you prefer. The £20 weekend difference is still relatively small beside the overall cost of the trip.
Malmaison and travelling with a dog
Malmaison Glasgow is the lowest guide total here: £240 midweek or £260 at the weekend, with a £45-per-person Chez Mal allowance. It is the straightforward answer when you want the room and dinner under one roof and would rather spend the rest of the budget elsewhere in Glasgow.
For dogs, Kimpton with Stravaigin is the most promising combination to investigate: the hotel accepts dogs under its own conditions, and Stravaigin explicitly welcomes them in its Café Bar. Request a Café Bar table, rather than assume every dining space has the same policy.
Radisson RED also welcomes pets but excludes dogs from its rooftop bar. Its restaurant pairings need separate permission; a dog-friendly bedroom is not permission to bring a dog to UNALOME or Crabshakk.
Our choice would be UNALOME for a food occasion, Blythswood Square for spa-led luxury, Hotel du Vin for the West End setting, and Malmaison for an easy lower-cost stay. There is no need to make one hotel win four different briefs.
