Cheshire makes a persuasive case for staying the night after dinner. You can eat in the heart of Chester and step straight upstairs, or head into the countryside for a slower morning. These five hotels have restaurants worth building a short break around, with very different ideas of what that break should look like.
For more ways to compare stays, explore our dinner, bed and breakfast deals and countryside hotel breaks.
At a glance: The Chester Grosvenor for a city-centre occasion; Hotel Indigo for cooking over fire; Rookery Hall for a country-house spa break; Carden Park for a larger resort; and Peckforton Castle for a memorable setting.
Each hotel has an on-site restaurant and an overnight listing in the Gourmet Getaways catalogue. We checked the hotels’ own dining and offer pages where available. A dinner, bed and breakfast rate is not the same thing at every property: one may include a set menu, another a dining allowance. Confirm the restaurant, breakfast and the amount covered before booking.
For a celebration with no taxi ride afterwards, The Chester Grosvenor puts the choice in your hands. Arkle is the more deliberate evening; La Brasserie lends itself to a lively dinner when you still want time to wander around the city. The distinction matters when you book: an offer referring to hotel dining will not necessarily cover the same experience at both restaurants.
The hotel’s dining guide sets out the current options. Explore the Arkle listing or the La Brasserie listing.

The Forge makes this one a food-led stay rather than simply a convenient Chester hotel. Its open kitchen centres on cooking over fire and charcoal, with British ingredients taking the lead. Hotel Indigo is a good fit if you want dinner to feel energetic and contemporary, then a night in town without moving the car.
The hotel’s restaurant page describes the kitchen, while its experiences page lists current stay-and-dine options. Check whether the offer you choose includes breakfast. See Hotel Indigo Chester and The Forge.

Near Nantwich, Rookery Hall suits a break with a little more breathing room. Come early for the grounds or the spa, then make dinner at the hotel the centre of the evening. This is the choice for someone who wants to arrive once and stay put until after breakfast.
Hand Picked Hotels publishes the hotel’s current offers and spa information. Check treatment and dining inclusions separately; a spa treatment is not automatically part of a dinner break. See Rookery Hall.

Carden Park gives you more to do around dinner, with golf, spa facilities and an extensive estate. The Vines is the restaurant to choose if the evening meal is the event; Redmond’s Brasserie offers another pace. It works for a couple who want a full weekend, especially when one of them would rather be on the course and the other in the spa.
The hotel’s Wine & Dine stay describes a dinner allowance that can be used at either restaurant. Check opening days for The Vines and whether your chosen menu exceeds the allowance. See Carden Park and The Vines.

There are few more unmistakable arrivals in Cheshire. The castle setting gives a short stay its own sense of occasion, while 1851 provides the proper sit-down dinner that makes the overnight visit worthwhile. It is especially appealing if you want the hotel itself to be part of the story, rather than somewhere to sleep after a meal elsewhere.
Peckforton describes 1851 Restaurant and publishes a dinner, bed and breakfast offer with a per-person dinner allowance. Check 1851’s opening days before choosing a date. See Peckforton Castle and 1851.
If the restaurant is your first priority, book the table before the room. Then check whether the rate covers the particular dining room you want, how much you can spend on food, whether drinks and breakfast are included, and whether spa access is part of the stay. A genuine luxury dinner, bed and breakfast break is easier to enjoy when the small print is clear before you arrive.
