The Pheasant is a compact North Yorkshire food hotel where the village setting and restaurant are the draw. Its 16 bedrooms keep the experience personal, while the tasting-menu sleepover gives guests a simple way to make the restaurant the centre of the stay.
The Pheasant is a compact North Yorkshire food hotel where the village setting and restaurant are the draw. Its 16 bedrooms keep the experience personal, while the tasting-menu sleepover gives guests a simple way to make the restaurant the centre of the stay.
The Pheasant's restaurant is led by Head Chef Adam Westgarth, whose cooking is modern British and strongly rooted in North Yorkshire. The Ravenswick Estate supplies sheep, cattle, pigs and deer, while the wider kitchen philosophy draws on hedgerow ingredients, woodland produce and the seasons.
The food is ingredient-led, elegant and quietly inventive rather than showy. The hotel describes dishes as an expression of the landscape, from estate-reared meat to vegetables lifted from the ground and foraged wild garlic or elderflower. The restaurant currently holds 2 AA Rosettes.
The restaurant is on site in Harome. Sample menus change regularly, so the useful expectation is a tasting-led, produce-focused North Yorkshire dinner rather than a fixed list of signature dishes.
Sixteen individually styled rooms and suites make this a much smaller proposition than a country resort. That is part of the appeal: dinner, bed and breakfast can feel like one joined-up experience rather than three separate parts of a large hotel operation.
There is no spa-led proposition here. The retreat is Harome itself, the surrounding countryside and the calm of a small hotel after dinner. This is therefore a food-and-place break rather than a facilities-heavy one.
The hotel's setting in Harome makes it a natural base for the surrounding area as well as a place to stay for dinner. For a two-night break, allow time outside the dining room rather than treating the property as a one-evening stop.

The Pheasant's current independent quality signals are unusually strong for such a small hotel: 3 AA Red Stars for the stay and 2 AA Rosettes for the restaurant, alongside recognition in the MICHELIN Guide and Good Food Guide. The combination of village setting, estate-led produce and a tasting-menu sleepover makes it especially compelling for a food-first North Yorkshire break.
The Pheasant Hotel works best when the hotel, restaurant and setting are treated as one trip rather than three separate bookings. Choose the room and dinner first, then use the surrounding time to make the break feel like a proper retreat.
Based on one night's accommodation and breakfast for two, plus dinner for two. The dinner menu or number of courses is shown below where known.
