The Painswick is strongest as a stylish Cotswolds village hotel rather than a traditional grand country house. The scale is intimate, the views and interiors are relaxed, and the Supper & Stay package makes it easy to build a food-led night without overcomplicating the booking.

Sauce is The Painswick's on-site restaurant, offering seasonal dining with both an à la carte menu and a tasting menu. The tone is deliberately relaxed: this is a stylish Cotswolds dining room with valley views rather than a hushed, highly formal restaurant.
The menu changes with the seasons and is designed to work equally well for a full tasting experience or a more casual dinner. À la carte dinner is served daily from 5.45pm to 9pm, while the tasting menu is available daily for earlier sittings from 5.45pm to 7.30pm. Sunday lunch is served 12pm-2.45pm.
Sauce is on site, so it is the correct restaurant around which to build a Painswick stay. There is no need to travel into Stroud for dinner.
The hotel has 17 bedrooms, each part of a deliberately characterful boutique setup rather than a uniform room inventory. Guests should choose for position, views and room feel rather than simply floor area.
The Painswick is not an on-site spa resort. Its retreat value comes from the Cotswolds setting, walks, village atmosphere, terraces and the slower pace of a small boutique hotel.
The hotel's setting in Painswick makes it a natural base for the surrounding area as well as a place to stay for dinner. For a two-night break, allow time outside the dining room rather than treating the property as a one-evening stop.
Indicative build-your-own Gourmet Getaway: the indicative price shown in the price panel combines our current accommodation-and-breakfast benchmark with the selected restaurant's dining cost for two. It is designed for comparison and research and is not an official hotel package price. Because accommodation and menu prices can change, use the live price panel as the current indicative figure.
Supper & Stay from £341: Overnight stay with 10% saving, £50pp dinner food allocation at Sauce, full Cotswold breakfast and departure goodies. Subject to availability and current hotel terms.
Cotswolds food breaks · Boutique hotels · Couples · Village stays · Walking weekends · Relaxed special occasions
The Painswick's appeal is its combination of a relaxed 18th-century house, valley views, 17 individually styled bedrooms and an on-site restaurant that feels integral to the hotel rather than added on. The current Supper & Stay package makes that proposition particularly easy to understand for a one-night food-led break.
The Painswick works best when the hotel, restaurant and setting are treated as one trip rather than three separate bookings. Choose the room and dinner first, then use the surrounding time to make the break feel like a proper retreat.
Based on one night's accommodation and breakfast for two, plus dinner for two. The dinner menu or number of courses is shown below where known.
