Plas Dinas is the intimate end of the Gourmet Getaways spectrum: a historic country house with a strong sense of personality, a small room count and a restaurant serious enough to shape the whole stay. It is particularly appealing when heritage and food matter more than resort-style facilities.
Plas Dinas is the intimate end of the Gourmet Getaways spectrum: a historic country house with a strong sense of personality, a small room count and a restaurant serious enough to shape the whole stay. It is particularly appealing when heritage and food matter more than resort-style facilities.
The Gunroom is the food-led heart of Plas Dinas and is very much part of the country-house experience rather than a separate destination restaurant. The cooking is modern British/Welsh in character, with seasonal produce and a tasting-led approach that suits the intimate scale of the hotel.
Menus change with the seasons, so individual dishes move regularly; the useful constant is the format: refined, multi-course cooking with a strong sense of place rather than a broad brasserie menu. The restaurant holds 2 AA Rosettes and is Michelin Guide selected.
The Gunroom is on site. Because Plas Dinas has only a small number of bedrooms and the restaurant is a central part of the stay, we would secure dinner at the same time as the room rather than treating the table as an afterthought.
Accommodation is deliberately small-scale, with around eleven individually styled bedrooms and suites associated with the Armstrong-Jones family history. Period furniture and country-house character are part of the appeal rather than a neutral contemporary hotel aesthetic.
There is no conventional hotel spa or pool. The retreat is the house, its grounds and the North Wales setting, with Caernarfon, Eryri/Snowdonia and the coast close enough to make the hotel a base for a broader two-night itinerary.
The hotel's setting in Bontnewydd makes it a natural base for the surrounding area as well as a place to stay for dinner. For a two-night break, allow time outside the dining room rather than treating the property as a one-evening stop.
Indicative build-your-own Gourmet Getaway: the indicative price shown in the price panel combines our current accommodation-and-breakfast benchmark with the selected restaurant's dining cost for two. It is designed for comparison and research and is not an official hotel package price. Because accommodation and menu prices can change, use the live price panel as the current indicative figure.
Official packages: no current food-led package with a sufficiently clear public price has been promoted into this page. Use the direct hotel link for current bookable offers.

Google guest feedback is particularly positive about dining, service, breakfast and the character of the property. Reviews repeatedly mention the history, restoration and food as reasons the stay feels special.
Plas Dinas Country House works best when the hotel, restaurant and setting are treated as one trip rather than three separate bookings. Choose the room and dinner first, then use the surrounding time to make the break feel like a proper retreat.
Based on one night's accommodation and breakfast for two, plus dinner for two. The dinner menu or number of courses is shown below where known.
