Description

Hart's Hotel

Hart’s is a 32-bedroom Nottingham hotel with a private garden and an on-site two-AA-Rosette kitchen. Its position near the castle gives a city break a quieter base, while keeping the centre within reach. The result is a useful mix for a Gourmet Getaway: city culture and shopping during the day, a dinner with its own identity and a bedroom that need not feel like an extension of the busy streets.

At a glance

  • Accommodation award: 4 Silver Star
  • Bedrooms: 32
  • Main restaurant: Hart's Kitchen — 2 AA Rosettes

Why we like it

The garden is the distinguishing hotel feature, and Hart’s Kitchen gives you a reason to return for the evening. A Garden Room can make an especially satisfying choice for a city stay, provided you value the outlook and outdoor connection more than a conventional view of Nottingham.

Eat

Hart’s Kitchen

Hart’s Kitchen is the hotel’s on-site restaurant and holds two AA Rosettes. Head chef Lewis Ward develops the menus with Aaron Patterson, the executive chef associated with sister property Hambleton Hall. The connection explains some of the culinary ambition, but the award to recognise here is Hart’s own two-Rosette distinction.

The cooking is modern British, supported by seasonal ingredients and a wine list selected by Tim Hart. Hambleton Bakery bread is another link within the family’s food interests. The restaurant is intimate enough for dinner to feel like an independent part of the stay rather than a large hotel service.

A published late-summer sample menu gives useful examples: charred mackerel with escabeche sauce and fennel kimchi; halibut with sea vegetables and a vanilla sauce; and Redhill Farm pork belly with braised fennel. The combinations show a kitchen willing to add sharper or less expected accompaniments to recognisable main ingredients. Menus move with the season, so treat these as illustrations of the style.

À la carte dining, fixed-price options, Sunday lunch, afternoon tea and a snack menu give the restaurant several roles. A shorter lunch can leave an evening free for a performance; a full dinner makes the hotel itself the destination. Compare the current fixed-price service times if you want a shorter or earlier meal.

Dinner service generally begins at 5.30pm during the week, with a later Friday and Saturday finish. The sample menu gives Sunday evening from 6pm to 9pm. Book the exact sitting you need when coordinating theatre or other plans, since the Sunday schedule is not identical to the weekday one.

Sleep

The 32 rooms make this a relatively small city hotel. Garden Rooms deserve particular attention for their access and outlook, while other categories provide a different aspect. Good bedding and a calm interior are central to the accommodation offer; the garden connection is the detail that most clearly differentiates the stay. Choose by how you expect to use the room rather than assuming the highest category is necessary. A night centred on dinner may call for less space than a weekend with long periods spent reading or resting.

Retreat

Use the hotel as a quiet interval within Nottingham. The castle area provides an obvious first outing, while the city’s shops, galleries and performance venues can fill a longer day. The private garden brings some of the feeling of a smaller country hotel into the city. You can explore, return for a pause and then eat without having to cross town again. That rhythm is especially useful on a one-night break, when too many separate reservations can make the visit feel hurried.

What guests say

Breakfast, the atmosphere and the location receive particularly positive feedback, and there is a substantial favourable response to both the kitchen and the staff. Sleep comments are less consistent than dining comments. For a city stay built around dinner, the restaurant is a well-supported part of the appeal; light sleepers should still discuss the room’s position when booking.

The Gourmet Getaway

The indicative Gourmet Getaway price combines one night’s accommodation and breakfast for two with dinner for two at the selected restaurant. Use the current price panel to compare options, then check the room and restaurant for your dates. Any official hotel package is shown separately, with its own inclusions and terms.

Worth knowing

  • Garden drinks are restricted after 9.30pm to protect the privacy of guests in Garden Rooms.
  • Sunday dinner has its own service window; confirm timings if pairing the stay with a performance.

The Gourmet Getaways view

Best for a Nottingham break that values a quieter base and a restaurant with substance. We would consider a Garden Room and make Hart’s Kitchen the main evening plan. The city then becomes an enjoyable daytime addition, rather than the only reason to stay.
